Youth Nature Immersion

Service Description

Program Description During this 6-hour/ day, 6 day workshop participants will learn different outdoor skills that encourage creativity, communication, and hands-on problem solving. Each day is built on discussions about marginalized experience in correlation to a wildlife skill and through these experiences youth will learn how to regulate emotions, track their safety, communicate their needs, and show up for community decisions. While learning wildlife skills and introductory ecology youth get to be creative and have fun while learning more about the natural world that supports them. These gatherings seek to encourage deeper reflection of youth’s sense of place within themselves, the natural world, and their community. Accessibility The length of the immersions are 6 hours/ day. These sessions will be separated into a morning session and an afternoon session with a break for lunch in between. The nature of these activities will include hiking, walking, crouching, searching, tying, building, and a variety of other movements. There will be space to incorporate supplemental activities for folks who identify with disabilities so please reach out if that is a need for someone in our group so we can plan accordingly. Context While many of us are working to build a more sustainable and equitable environment for future generations we must not forget the youth that are here with us today. By offering space for youth to build their sense of self and their level of intimacy with the natural world we create a foundation of unique stewardship for caretakers to come. When we encourage reciprocity between youth and nature in early ages we plant seeds for future sustainable scientists and activists. In the world we live in today it is critical that we grow environmentalists who function on a basis of intimate care for the land. This immersion seeks to provide space to build intimate care for the land in an experiential community based way that opens the floor for discussions on important social and environmental justice issues. This learning space is intended to uplift marginalized youth. This program is offered from Spring-Fall. You may book a single day or multiple sessions for events or school groups for $200-250/day.
